Ride of Silence 2026
Each year on the third Wednesday in May, the Ride of Silence takes place in cities worldwide - a memorial ride for those cyclists killed or injured in traffic. On May 20st, 2026, this ride took place in Frankfurt for the 8th time. As usual, the ride was registered as demonstration and and accompanied by the police, to ensure everyone’s safety. Many volunteers acted as additional stewards to ensure that the 120 participants arrived safely back at the Alte Oper after a two-hour drive with five stops at locations with white ghost bikes.
This year, the route led from the Alte Oper via stops at Europa-Allee, Ludwig-Landmann-Straße/Rödelheimer Landstraße and Thudichumstraße. At each station, the organizers briefly described the course of the accident. In some cases, the initial police press releases on the collisions were used as a base, and where possible, further information from later court proceedings was also added.

Additionally all participants put down their bicycles to remember the injured but not killed cyclists at Bockenheimer Landstraße/Senckenberganlage for a minute of silence.
Even though there have not (yet…) been any cyclists killed in Frankfurt this year, the next Ride of Silence is scheduled to take place on May 19, 2027. The date is independent of whether there will have been fatalities or not – unfortunately, there will certainly have been injuries.
